Education/ Qualifications 

 

  • 2003-Present Eastern Mediterranean University, PhD Mass Communications and Media Studies, Famagusta.  Title of thesis “Peace Journalism, News Coverage of the Cyprus Conflict”. The basic aim of the study is to explore the Turkish/Greek Cypriot media coverage of each other to see how they frame the “other” in their coverage. This will help us in formulating a peace journalism approach for the journalists in Cyprus.

  • 2001 – 2003 Eastern Mediterranean University, Eastern Mediterranean University, MA Mass Communications and Media Studies 2001 – 2003, Famagusta. CGPA: 3.39. Title of unpublished MA Thesis “Peace Journalism in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus News Media”. This study is showing how the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) news-writing journalists report the conflict news and how much they obey the peace journalism rules. Conclusion of the study is TRNC news writing journalists were 76.6 percent agree with the peace journalism oriented questions in theoretically. Questionnaire results show that TRNC news writing journalists news values are peace oriented.

  • September 2008 – Present Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta.
    Position: Part Time Senior Instructor. I am teaching peace journalism, sociology of journalism, history of photography, online journalism and desktop publishing courses.
  • April 2009 – Present Foreign Press Association, Nicosia.
    Position: Project Coordinator. I am coordinating a European Union project of FPA which entitled “
    Promotion of youth exchanges and other people-to-people contacts”. www.fpaeuro.com
  • September 2001 – 2007 Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta.
    Position: Full Time Research Assistant in Press and Public Relation Office. Rector Assistant. Duties:  Press coordinator of EMU. Coordinating the relationship between the local media and the university; reporting the daily news regarding the events, conferences on campus; managing the team, consist of administrative assistants, that prepares the summary of daily news;  serving as editor-in-chief and designer of internal communication bulletin of EMU; picture editor of Dođuakdenizli magazine; assisting to the vice-rector for advancement of university; managing the cooperation between the university and  other periodicals of Cyprus. 
  • June 1998 – September 2001 Advertisement Department, KIBRIS newspaper, Nicosia.
    Position: Mac Operator
    Duties: Creating all advertisement on Mac platform which is publishing in newspaper.

  • Actively involved in athletics, basketball, and football since 1987. In different fields of athletics, more than 100 medals and 50 certificate of achievement Record holder on 100m, Jumping and 4x100 m.
