A panel was held due to 14th November World Diabetes Day at EUL
A panel entitled “Diabetes Awareness” was held due to 14th November World Diabetes Day by European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences. Prof. Dr. Nuran Akdemir, Dr. Hasan Sav, Dr. Caner Arca and health professional Enver Bozkurt participated in panel as spoke person, which was held from 10:00 to 12:00 in Rauf Raif Denktas Education Complex Conference Hall.
Sav: Diabetes occurs because blood glucose rises
Dr. Hasan Sav, who first made a speech in the panel, gave large-scale information about issues such as why diabetes?, what is the global importance of diabetes?, what is diabetes?, what is the medical importance? and what should be done about diabetes?.
Sav, who stated that there are two types of diabetes in today’s world namely Type 1 and Type 2, asserted that Type 1 diabetes is 5% seen in children and adolescents and Type 2 diabetes 95% appears in middle-age and above. Sav said that Type 2 occurs in childhood, which he thinks is more gratifying, and the reason of this is attributed to the age range of people is the greater.
Akdemir: The more you walk the more diabetes stay away from you
EUL School of Health Nursing department faculty member, Prof. Dr. Nuran Akdemir, who referred to the diabetes with nursing perspective in her presentation, touched upon the fact that diabetes is a type o disease that affects the lives of individuals and families with a variety of size and requires mandatory lifestyle changes.
Akdemir put emphasis on the truth that there are individual life-style arrangements, health diet and adopting an active lifestyle by realizing it on the basis of departure from the risk of diabetes. Akdemir said: “The more you walk the more diabetes stay away from you”.
Arca: Diabetic must cope with his diabetes
Arca, who addressed on the issues namely diabetes in the world and controlling diabetes, stated that diabetics need to learn ways of coping with their own diabetes. He also explained they need to change their eating habits by paying attention much to their life styles in order to do that.
Bozkurt: Right scale techniques must be used
Health profession, Enver Bozkurt, who finally made a speech in the panel, disclosed that if tools that used not used correctly, there will be no benefit to the patient by indicating that tools and equipment used in the treatment of patients with diabetes should be used consciously. He conveyed knowledge about the proper injection usage by recommending the correct scale technique should be used with the patients.
The panel ended with the question and answer session. Dr. Hasan Sav, Dr. Caner Arca and Enver Bozkurt were presented certificate of appreciation at the end of the panel by EUL School of Health Nursing department faculty member Prof. Dr. Nuran Akdemir.
