A panel-exhibition titled “Compete with your minds, not with your cars” was organized with the collaboration of EUL Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education, TRNC General Directorate of Security and Traffic Safety Association at the European University of Lefke on 16 May 2014.

Deputy Inspector Erdim Kara from the General Directorate of Security and Dr. Mehmet Avcı, President of Traffic Safety Association delivered speeches in the panel that was organized within the scope of the course “Community Service Practices” taken by the students of the Departments of Pre-school Teaching, English Language Teaching and Computer and Instructional Technology Teacher Education under the guidance of Dr. Çağda Kıvanç Çağanağa, EUL Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education to create awareness about traffic accidents and inform students about the possible measures to be taken.

Dr. Oğuz Serin, Vice Dean of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education who delivered the opening speech stated that EUL always has the desire to support the local people living in Lefke in terms of education, emphasizing that they pursue a student centred education and adopt the discipline of learning through experience. Commemorating the four academicians they lost in a deplorable traffic accident on 20 January 2014, he said that only education can stop traffic accidents.

Dr. Mehmet Avcı, President of Traffic Safety Association stated traffic accident do not solely happen due to human errors and he added that necessary legal regulations should be put into effect and roads have to have proper lighting and be improved to reach EU standards.

Deputy Inspector Erdim Kara from the General Directorate of Security said that it is important to raise awareness especially among the children about traffic rules and he emphasized that obeying the traffic rules saves lives.

At the end of the panel, Dr. Oğuz Serin, Vice Dean of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education presented certificates of appreciation to Deputy Inspector Erdim Kara from the General Directorate of Security, Dr. Mehmet Avcı, President of Traffic Safety Association and Dr. Çağda Kıvanç Çağanağa.
