A “Breast Cancer Awareness Panel” was held at EUL

The European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Medicine organized a “Breast Cancer Awareness Panel” as part of the “Breast Cancer Awareness and Education Month.”
During the panel, the topic of breast cancer was addressed from a multidisciplinary perspective. The event emphasized the importance of both scientific and clinical studies, stating that awareness of breast cancer can only be increased through an interdisciplinary approach.
The importance of early diagnosis was discussed during the panel.
During the panel, Prof. Dr. Rasime Kalkan, a faculty member at the EUL Faculty of Medicine, highlighted the role of medical genetics in breast cancer, emphasizing that genetic research plays a crucial role in early diagnosis and the development of personalized treatment methods. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Ertay stated that molecular-level research on breast cancer is critical for improving early detection and targeted therapies.Prof. Dr. Lema Tavlı underlined that the use of pathology laboratories is a fundamental step in diagnosing breast cancer, while Dr. Umut Özgünalp, a Radiology Specialist from Cengiz Topel Hospital, discussed the importance of radiology in the diagnostic process.Finally, Dr. Latif Abbasoğlu, Chief Physician and General Surgery Specialist at Cengiz Topel Hospital, stated that the surgical intervention process following a breast cancer diagnosis is decisive for both treatment success and quality of life.
At the end of the panel, all speakers emphasized that early diagnosis in breast cancer saves lives. Participants were reminded of the importance of regular screenings and self-breast examinations.
The event received great interest as part of the awareness activities organized by the European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Medicine, which aim to contribute to public health.
