A panel titled “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Patient Rights: The Situation in the TRNC” was held at EUL

The Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the European University of Lefke (EUL) organized a panel titled “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Patient Rights: The Situation in the TRNC.” The panel, which featured guest speakers who are experts in their fields, lasted two days. On the first day of the event, Münevver Özakalın from the Universal Patients’ Rights Association, Attorney Aslı Murat, and former Vice President of the Medical Association Teksen Köroğlu delivered speeches informing students on the topic.
Attorney Aslı Murat addressed key issues such as the Patient Rights Law in the TRNC, the Personal Data Protection Law, and privacy in private life, and discussed informed consent—one of the most important aspects of professional practice—emphasizing its necessity in the process and the possible consequences of neglecting it. Münevver Özakalın prepared a presentation covering fundamental patient rights, noting that benefiting from healthcare services free of charge is a right. She highlighted topics such as the right to receive information about one’s health status, respect for patient privacy, and consent to medical intervention. Dr. Teksen Köroğlu approached the subject of patient rights from a physician’s perspective and provided participants with information on current approaches.
On the second day of the event, Prof. Dr. Nergüz Bulut Serin addressed, “The Rights of Elderly Patients,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sultan Okumuşoğlu discussed “The Patient Rights of Individuals with Obesity,” Lecturer Dilem Öke examined “The Patient Rights of Individuals with Disabilities within the Framework of Patient Rights,” and Asst. Prof. Dr. Beliz Köroğlu explored “The Rights of Child Patients” in detail.
