“Obesity” is on the agenda of EUL
Conference on “Scientific Approaches on Eating Disorders and Obesity” has been held by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of European University of Lefke (EUL). Psychiatrist Dr. Ece Uslu and Prof. Dr. Murat Baş have participated to the conference as a speaker.
Uslu: Eating Disorders Lead to Various Problems.
Uslu has stated that the nutrition and eating disorders are serious threat to health and quality of peoples’ lives. And she has also pointed out that the obesity emerges as a result of eating disorders and it has three characteristic features. These are the restriction of eating, being extremely afraid of gaining weight and physical ailments based on the adequate and balanced nutrition, eating unconscionable in a short periods of time, not being able to restrain the eating behaviors, eating excessively over and over again.
Baş: Dieticians have an effective role.
During the presentation at the conference, Baş has mostly laid emphasis on the factors that lead to eating disorders and obesity and has also provided detailed information about the wrong knowledge of dietetics, teaching of weight control, energy balance, effects of hunger, diet and weight control.
Dietitians have an effective role in controlling the excessive weight gain and obesity due to eating disorders and other factors, stated Baş. cognitive behavioral therapy under the supervision of a dietician is an effective method for the bulimia nervosa and this process of therapy is applied in line with “nutrition education” and “diet guidance”, emphasized Baş.
