Lefke locals are pleased with the opening of EUL Central Dormitory
European University of Lefke (EUL) Lefke Central Dormitory has started serving EUL students with an area of 1972 m² and a bed capacity of 320 people.
The dormitory, which is located in the center of Lefke, consists of three blocks; A, B and C Blocks which are ground, first and second floors, which are built without distorting the natural and historical structure of the region. The dormitory which is built in the region with the reason of the constantly increasing number of students of the university has been opened to the use of the students at the beginning of 2016-2017 academic year with the purpose of contributing to a comfortable living space and region for the students. Apart from the disabled-friendly rooms, there are private kitchens and study rooms for each floor.
The people of Lefke expressed their thoughts and satisfaction about the country:
Ufuk Özdemir: In 2000, I was a student at EUL. Compared to that period, it has developed quite rapidly, exaggeratedly, without being dispersed everywhere, has changed quite regularly. As a center of the Lefke, it seemed that the university was far away from Lefke and had not much contribution. Currently, there are two dormitories that benefit both the population and the tradesmen and the public. Moreover, it is beneficial for the students to be in the center of Lefke in terms of the unity of the public and the university. Only the university needs to pay attention to environmental factors and act parallel with the people of the region. The construction of new spaces, the opening of cafes, restaurants, etc. where more students can eat, is the responsibility of the people of the region. It is now possible to make these innovations by shifting the dormitories to the Lefke region.
Hatice Gençler: The great advantage of opening a dormitory in Lefke is that the students have a lot of economical contribution to restaurants and markets, and after the exams, since the students leave the region there is a visible calmness in the area. My daughter has a restaurant in Gemikonagi. It is very intense in means of business, because of the students; as I have observed.
Dilek Kaya: In the last two years, LAU has improved considerably. The dormitory building in Lefke has a positive effect on the region, though I wish it had built more, but without destroying nature. It is more advantageous if the place is out of sight because we do not want the image of the nature to be distorted.
Saliye Taşar: I think that with the opening of the Lefke Central Dormitory and the shift of the Preparatory School building to Lefke, it will increase the decreasing population and contribute to the local tradesman financially.
Mustafa Yöney: There is no need to deny visible and tactual development. The University has all kinds of contributions to the region. Even recently, the main reason why the district that came to the city is the district is based on the university. It was very good to build a dormitory in the region, if only there was no limitations in urban master planning and could be built a little higher. In recent days, even the main cause of the fact that Lefke came to the agenda to be a district, it is based on the university. It was very good to build a dormitory in the region, if only there was no limitations in urban master planning and could be built a little higher. Because for many years there has been no benefit provided to the town of Lefke by the EUL, until recently. A good leader is good wherever s/he takes office. Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen has done many things in 3 years counter to what others could not do in 20 years. I am able to comment in such way because I have mastered all the processes as I have played an active role in opening this university.
Hüseyin Emel: With the opening of the dormitory in Lefke, the region is much lively. The locals expect to see each and every resident students of the dormitory in Lefke. Comparing with the previous periods, we observe that the students of the region have a higher contribution to the region. Students will be able to spend more time in Lefke if there are nice places for students in Lefke.
Çimen Ünsaç: The University has evolved in terms of student and investment. The opening of the dormitory building in Lefke improved the work of the shopkeepers. Students’ demands and desires increased. The university is showing a successful rise with the number of students; it has increased in recent years. I wish the number of students will increase even more if the university increases its quality.
