Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre

Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre was established in connection with European University of Lefke Rectorate in 2015. The following services/ practices are conducted in Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre.

Individual and Group Training: In Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre, 40 children with special needs ( Autism Spectrum Disorders, Mental Impairment, Learning Disability, Cerebral Palsy and other special need groups) are provided educational / developmental support. Besides, students who apply for the assessment of the children who are gifted or talented are evaluated and may have guidance  depending on the result of this assessment.

Educational / Developmental Assessment: In Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre we carry out educational and developmental assessment. The families who apply for an assessment to our centre are given appointments and during these appointments interviews with families are held as well as using DENVER Developmental Screening Test II, Gazi Early Childhood Assessment Tool, Small Steps Early Intervention Programme, and Sue Teely Multiple Intelligences Preference Inventory by taken the student’s age into consideration. After the family interview and child’s assessment the appropriate education programme is determined.

Family Consultancy:   In Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre, the families with children who have special needs are offered individual consultancy services. By interviewing families that apply to our centre for educational / developmental assessment and those who already received consultancy the family needs are spotted and regarding these outcomes the families receive consultancy services at the centre or home.

Research: In Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre, different topics about children with special needs and their families are researched and different projects are carried out in order to create an opportunity for graduate dissertations.

Professional Development: In Children with Special Needs Practice, Research and Education Centre, there has been created a research field for undergraduate and graduate students. The students of Special Education Teaching Department carry out their practices in this centre throughout the year. Besides, undergraduate students may also observe the practices applied in the centre. In addition, there are also certificated trainings such as, in-service trainings by the protocols done with state and private sector, seminar arrangements, informative conferences for public, Behavioural Training Programme for Autistic Children.

Professional Help to the Students with Learning Disabilities: The students with learning disabilities who applied to the Centre or directed to the Centre from the faculties are examined. The results are carefully reported by a specialised team. After this procedure, the student advisor and the related faculty are informed about the students’ disability condition as well as student identification. The Centre provides professional support to the related faculty and to the advisors for the students’ success.
