“3D Orientation and Information Graphics Workshop” was held within the scope of the design week event themed “Traditional Design Week MELIORA” organised by the European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Architecture and Design.

Three-dimensional graphic works were prepared and exhibited

Three-dimensional graphic works were prepared with the students of the department in the “3D Orientation and Information Graphics Workshop” led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Atamaz, head of the Department of Visual Communication Design, and lecturer Zühre Özer. In the workshop, which aims to combine design skills in the third dimension with graphic design, the students first tried small-scale structure modelling from white cardboard. The models, which were prepared by folding and interlocking without using adhesive, were then worked on a larger scale with double corrugated cardboard. After the structure works, the students prepared graphic designs on the surfaces. The aim of these designs was to inform the visitors about the design department with these 3D works to be placed in the space. The graphics, which focused on concepts such as design, communication and creation, also included art movements and the corporate identity of the university. On the last day of the design week, the works were exhibited at the entrance of the Faculty of Communication Sciences.

During the workshop, the students of the Department of Visual Communication Design were supported and participated by the students of the Department of New Media and Communication. During the design week, where students from different classes and departments had the opportunity to work together, students learnt teamwork and how to produce experimental solutions to a design problem within the given time.

Atamaz: These kinds of workshops are of great importance for students’ transition to professional working life

Head of the Department of Visual Communication Design Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Atamaz expressed that ” These workshops, which emphasise the development of design skills and the importance of teamwork outside the course, are of great importance in the transition of students to professional working life” and continued her words as follows; As a faculty, we are grateful that our university provides this opportunity to our students. We hope to continue this traditional design week in the coming years with similar workshops on a scale that includes all university students.
