The purpose of the four year undergraduate programme in Interior Architecture, is to provide a course of study leading to a recognised degree in preparation for a profession in Interior Architecture that is recognised in Turkey, the Middle East, and in Europe in anticipation of the TRNC and Turkey joining the European Union. Graduates in Interior Architecture have great job opportunities in the private sector on designed and finished buildings including decoration, renovation, and final application projects, and the design and production of furniture in the private sector. They are also highly sought as academics in universities or as teachers in schools dealing with the built environment. The education philosophy of the B.A. programme in Interior Architecture is to create a balance between theoretical and practical education while providing standards of professional training which will be useful to graduates in their future profession as Interior Architects.
The Interior Architecture Department runs parallel with the Architecture Programme until the third year when emphasis is placed on courses such as Lighting for Interiors, Furniture Finishes and Fixtures, History of Interior Design and Detailing of Interiors. Teaching in design studio involves building interior projects focussing on human beings fulfilling the functions of working and living in suitable comfortable and pleasant environments both physically and emotionally, within the limitations of specific structural systems, on projects such as housing, exhibition halls, shopping centres, government buildings etc. that grow in complexity and depth until the Graduation project requiring a fully integrated design solution. The Interior Architect must therefore organise the spaces of building and manage technical issues as well as be creative and imaginative in his use of colour, texture and materials in a common search for environments that enhance our culture and quality of life.
