A Panel Titled “Women Who Create Awareness” was held at EUL

A panel titled “Women Who Create Awareness” was held at the European University of Lefke (EUL). Organized by EUL’s women administrators and deans, the panel attracted strong interest from students and featured the experiences of women who inspire society. The guest speakers included BRTK director, Meryem Çavuşoğlu Özkurt, female entrepreneur Hidayet Özuysal, and child health specialist, Dr. Nurçin İncirli.
Özkurt shared her views on women’s representation in the media and the broadcasting policies of BRTK during the panel. She emphasized that public broadcasting plays an important role in raising awareness in society and stated that BRTK strives to uphold gender equality in its programming, paying particular attention not only to women but also to children and people with disabilities. Highlighting that this is a matter of social responsibility, BRTK Director Meryem Özkurt also stressed the importance of having more women in leadership positions within the media sector.
Dr. İncirli, an experienced specialist in child development and health, who stands out for her achievements in both medicine and social awareness initiatives, spoke about her career journey and her experiences in promoting social awareness. Dr. İncirli, who leads the activities of the Volunteers of Goodness under Evkaf in the Güzelyurt region, also referred to the work they carry out within this framework, emphasizing that “kindness is contagious.” She also touched upon the principle that “what one hand gives, the other should not know,” and discussed the roles of mothers, families, and society in raising healthy generations. Noting that mothers carry significant responsibility in raising children, Dr. İncirli also addressed the threats posed by digital media and screen use to children’s health.
Female entrepreneur Hidayet Özuysal, who actively participates in economic life by establishing and managing her own business, spoke about the founding journey of her company and shared her entrepreneurial experiences with the participants. Özuysal stated that the idea of starting her own business had always been on her mind, noting that she had already been working professionally before turning this idea into action. She explained that she left her job and stepped out of her comfort zone to establish her own business, emphasizing that she worked especially hard to maintain consistent standards in her products. Özuysal also noted that being a female entrepreneur in Northern Cyprus brings certain opportunities, adding that although she initially faced difficulties in obtaining incentives, she overcame this process by setting small goals for herself.
At the end of the panel, certificates of appreciation were presented by Prof. Dr. Elif Asude Tunca, Dean of the EUL Faculty of Communication, to the guests, who also expressed their thanks to EUL for the invitation.
