The School of Nursing at the European University of Lefke (EUL) organized an international symposium titled “Teamwork in Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatric Epilepsy” for students and healthcare professionals. The event, which attracted strong participation, focused on the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric epilepsy.
The symposium was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Dilek Şayık. The event featured expert healthcare professionals from Canada, who evaluated the importance of teamwork in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric epilepsy from multiple perspectives. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenneth A. Myers from McGill University and Montreal Children’s Hospital emphasized that accurate diagnosis and effective treatment in pediatric epilepsy are only possible through interdisciplinary collaboration. Heather Davies, Sanaz Shadvar, and Katrina Gibb shared their experiences regarding team coordination in clinical practice, family education, and holistic care approaches. The event also included important evaluations on the critical role of nurses in the care of children with epilepsy, career opportunities in pediatric neurology, and the challenges encountered in teamwork. It was noted that the symposium provided a valuable academic platform that not only enhanced nursing students’ professional knowledge and clinical awareness but also strengthened the culture of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The symposium, which provided an opportunity for international experience sharing, was followed with great interest by the participants and concluded with a question-and-answer session.
