The Faculty of Law at the European University of Lefke (EUL) organized the “Children’s Rights Student Symposium in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals” held in collaboration with the Faculty of Law at Özyeğin University, the symposium took place online.

As part of World Children’s Rights Day, the symposium brought together students from the Law Faculties of EUL and Özyeğin University, who examined children’s rights through the lens of sustainable development in various sessions. Presentations were delivered on a wide range of topics, including preventing violence against children from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals; domestic violence against children and legal protection mechanisms; the role of law in combating sexual violence against children and building sustainable societies; violence experienced by children in the digital world, including legal regulations and prevention policies; effective investigation and prosecution in cases of children’s rights violations; the climate crisis and children’s rights in relation to sustainable living; combating child labor within the framework of sustainable development; and the right of the child to participate..

The symposium, organized to highlight the strong links between the protection and advancement of children’s rights and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, approached the legal dimension of children’s rights from an interdisciplinary perspective and developed solution proposals at both national and international levels..

The symposium examined the legal foundations of children’s rights and the policies and practices affecting children’s well-being from a sustainable development perspective, encouraging students to engage in academic research and advocacy.
