EUL Organizes Art and Museum Education Program at Güzelyurt Archaeology and Nature Museum

An art and museum education event was held at the Güzelyurt Archaeology and Nature Museum under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Ferda Kömleksiz, faculty member at the European University of Lefke (EUL).
The event, conducted under the theme “Geometric Objects in the Museum,” brought together 4th-year students from EUL’s Department of Primary School Teaching and 3rd-grade students from Güzelyurt Özgürlük Primary School. The museum-based education provided an enriched learning environment that supported formal education by enabling students to directly interact with historical and cultural heritage.
Through creative methods such as drama, game-based learning, and costume design, the activity encouraged active participation among students. The main objective was to enhance awareness of both mathematical concepts, such as the structure, properties, and real-life applications of basic geometric shapes like circles, triangles, and squares, and how these shapes are reflected in period-specific vessels and clothing displayed in the museum.
The event also aimed to foster students’ emotional connections to cultural and historical values, develop their aesthetic sensitivity, and promote learning through multiple modalities. This holistic approach offered an interdisciplinary educational experience encompassing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development. In this context, the museum was not only viewed as an exhibition space but also as an effective learning environment for structured educational activities.
