A Brief History

The European University of Lefke, founded by the Cyprus Science Foundation, officially started its academic activities in 1990 as a State Foundation University. The University and all its respective departments are accredited with the Turkish Republic’s Higher Education Council (Board) since its first day of establishment.

The University campus is located on a hill in one of the island’s richest natural corners, overlooking the local landscape and with a full view of the blue waters of the Mediterranean. With its quiet and tranquil setting, it offers students an ideal environment to pursue their academic studies.

With its advanced infrastructure and technological facilities, EUL is recognized as a leading higher education institution in the western region of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

EUL aims to provide up-to-date and sustainable quality education in accordance with international standards. It conducts research and contributes to the needs of the society. Prospective students can expect a multicultural learning environment supplemented by a rich history of academic integrity as well as vast experience from both academics and staff. The aim is to be an autonomous university which is open to change and development, producing science and technology and serving as a model with its multicultural diversity which would create a multi-ethnic, cross-cultural student profile on campus and International Diversity by increasing the visibility of “International Student Body” on campus.

At EUL, prioritises to educate prospective students in become honest, innovative and professionally responsible individuals. In addition to this, they will be encouraged to approach academia with critical thinking as well as the contribution to their respective societies regarding scientific matters and to embrace and develop cultural diversity, intercultural competence and empathy. The main pillars through which the University seeks to achieve these goals are academic freedom, high quality education, and  a strong emphasis on scientific and technological innovation and advancement. Ultimately, our institution aspires to contribute to the welfare of society and global peace initiatives by assuming a pioneering role in economic, social, and cultural development.
