“Gait Analysis Training” Held at EUL

The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the European University of Lefke (EUL) organized a “Gait Analysis Training” led by Prof. Dr. Salih Angın.
As part of the training, participants first explored the history of gait, with emphasis placed on why walking is a fundamental area of assessment in human movement and the health sciences. This was followed by a detailed examination of gait analysis, with evaluation methods ranging from clinical observation to measurement-based approaches discussed through practical examples. Participants learned that gait is not only an essential activity of daily living but also an important “clinical window” for understanding a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
One of the key topics of the program focused on the biomechanical and kinesiological aspects of the normal gait pattern. Fundamental components of normal walking, including the phases of gait, joint movements, and muscle activity, were explained within a theoretical framework to provide participants with a clearer understanding. This enabled participants to reinforce the fundamental principles of identifying gait deviations by first understanding the characteristics of a normal gait pattern.
In the later stages of the training, the focus shifted to pathological gait, with participants receiving information on various pathological gait patterns and types of gait abnormalities. Common gait disorders encountered in clinical practice were discussed in detail, including how to recognize them, which clinical signs may indicate specific conditions, and the key factors to consider during the assessment process.
This training, organized by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the European University of Lefke (EUL), was regarded as an important educational event, providing students and healthcare professionals with an up-to-date, comprehensive learning environment that supports professional development.
