Remarkable Success from the European University of Lefke Department of Gastronomy

The Department of Gastronomy at the European University of Lefke, School of Tourism and Hotel Management achieved a major success by earning top awards at the 22nd Istanbul Culinary Days Festival held this year. Competing at the university level, the students proudly represented the European University of Lefke by winning medals in four different categories, securing three gold medals and one silver medal.
Competing in the Dessert Plate category, Mihriban Civelek won a Gold Medal by reinterpreting the classic Mont Blanc dessert using traditional ingredients with a modern approach.
Competing in the Pasta Plate category, Azra Ülker Yorulmaz won a Silver Medal with her ravioli dish filled with lamb shank and Cyprus-specific red mushrooms.
Competing in the Fish Plate category, Oğuzhan Gönenç won a Gold Medal for his interpretation of stuffed sea bass fillet prepared with a filling of gavcar mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, and shrimp.
Finally, in the Main Course Plate category, Şaban Altunkaynak was awarded a Gold Medal by the jury for his veal medallion dish prepared with truffle and cornelian cherry.
With these achievements, the European University of Lefke Department of Gastronomy once again demonstrated the importance it places on practical education, while successfully showcasing the creativity and professional competence of its students.
