Özyel said that “The aim of the symposium which was held for the second time this year was to create awareness in many disciplines with multidisciplinary participation. The main concern of this year’s symposium was “Aging Successfully” and added that the rapid increase in the elderly population as a result of the prolonged life expectancy from birth has increased the desire and effort of people to have a healthy aging process. Özyel said that the concept of aging successfully can be used in meanings such as disease avoidance, high physical and mental functioning, active participation in life, absence of disease, psychological well-being, life satisfaction, economic security, positive outlook on life and explained the concept as a dynamic process which includes “being positive in terms of mental and physical competencies and to be able to relate with life”. Özyel also said that “As it can be understood from the session headings, our precious speakers will touch upon these issues”. Özyel also stated that the current developments in the field will once again reveal the multidisciplinary nature of elderliness and the aim is to to reflect this in the symposium.
