A design event on “4 Countries, 4 Architects, 4 Different Experiences” was held at EUL
A design event titled “4 Countries, 4 Architects, 4 Different Experiences” was held by the Faculty of Architecture of the European University of Lefke (EUL).
The event, which aims to learn the architecture and design experiences of architects working in different countries by creating an international platform, and to understand the difficulties they face in their practical professional lives during the pandemic process, was organized online.
In the event organized by faculty members Asst. Prof Dr. Aliye Menteş, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nilay Bilsel and Asst. Prof. Dr. Feriha Urfalı Doğu; 4 architects working in England, India, Turkey and Northern Cyprus came together at the online event and talked about their architectural experiences during the pandemic process by making presentations on the projects they have implemented. At the event, the guest architects shared the challenges and experiences they encountered in their own countries, with examples from the practice of architecture and design.
Architects working in different countries shared their experiences with EUL students
Emphasizing the importance of architectural ethics and the participation of the society, the speakers explained the importance of sustainable design approaches and human-oriented projects that will benefit the society. Touching on the urban scale, architectural and interior design practice, the guests talked about their practical life experiences by creating a rich content thanks to the projects they discussed at different scales. Among the topics that the speakers especially drew attention to about their experiences during the pandemic period; The importance of using digital platforms in the presentation of the projects designed during the pandemic period, the continuation of the negotiations in the architect-customer relationship with newly developed methods due to the pandemic, the economic difficulties experienced in the offices that continued as home-offices for a long time, the difficulties in the adaptation process and the transformation of teamwork.
After event moderator Asst. Prof. Dr. Aliye Menteş started the event, the opening speech was made by Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Lerzan Aras gave a speech emphasizing the importance of online activities during the pandemic period. Architect Shanka Mesa Siverio from England, Architect Pritesh Bafna from India, Architect Eren Tümer from Turkey and Architect Münevver Özgür Özersay from Northern Cyprus attended the event and shared valuable information. In the event, in which many students participated as listeners, EUL Architecture Faculty students contributed to the continuation of an intellectual discussion platform by asking many questions after the guests’ seminal presentations.
