More Awareness Projects from EUL Students
Violence against Women was highlighted
Social Services Club which is affiliated to the European University of Lefke (EUL) Office of Students’ Dean organized an awareness project under the framework of their Social Services with the society lecture aimed at “Violence Against Women” with a purple framework. The project held at the Faculty of Health Sciences was conducted by the Academician of Social Services Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özgür Bayır.

Bayır pointed out that the 4th class students set up a stand to raise awareness of violence against women, one of the most common social problems that adversely affected the society and added that they drew “stop” emblem on the hands of the participants with purple color. Bayır also stated that students prepared a purple framework in order to take photos with and added that by this means the participants said no to violence from a purple framework.
Bayır said that “In the recent years, the murder of women with firearms and knives takes place in the front row” and added that from 2017 until October 2018 608 women are registered as official victims of violence and according to the official data of the Social Services Office; 205 women appealed to the police on charges of violence between January and September and 16 women reported violence to 183 Social Services Line. Pointing out that between November 5, 2016 and November 21, 2018, 50 women and 48 children were placed in the Women’s Shelter of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality, Bayır said that “In addition to these, 32 women, who were not settled in the Shelter, were also provided with outside support. In 2017, 281 women appealed to the police for violence and 16 women applied to the 183 Social Services Reporting Line”.
Bayır: Our students guided the society with effective visuals and materials to think on the concept of violence against women.
Bayır said that “From this point of view, our students have seen that eliminating not only physical violence but also other types of violence can be possible by raising awareness of the society and by conducting this activity they guided the society with effective visuals and materials to think on the concept of violence against women”.
