EUL represented at the Neurological Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Congress
The project aiming to analyze the needs of disabled people was presented at the congress
Academician of European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beliz Belgen Kaygısız represented EUL in the 1st Neurological Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Congress hosted by Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at İzmir with her verbal notice.
Main theme of the congress was Neuroplasticity and the current treatment approaches used in the field of neurological rehabilitation were discussed within the scope of the congress. Academician of European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beliz Belgen Kaygısız presented her verbal notice themed “Analysis of the needs of people with physical disabilities living in rural areas and the application of the interventions” which was about European Union project.
Kaygısız said that “Despite the fact that in recent years the needs of physically handicapped people have been identified in major cities and there have been major developments in collective integration, these developments are inadequate in rural areas” and pointed out that the project implemented with funds provided by the European Union was carried out in cooperation with the municipalities in three different rural areas. Pointing out that the project encompasses education, physiotherapy and rehabilitation and architecture modification activities, Kaygısız noted that the project had positive effects on increasing the quality of life of people with physical disabilities in these regions and on ensuring collective integration.
Kaygısız stated that the results of the project aimed at analyzing the needs of people with physical disabilities living in rural areas and implementing the necessary interventions, are very important in raising awareness across the country about disability living and ensuring the social, and economic integration of people with disabilities and added that the project also sets an example for other rural municipalities in our country.
