EUL students created awareness with Children’s Rights Exhibition
European University of Lefke (EUL) An exhibition on “Children’s Rights” was opened at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Education Complex by Dr. Fazıl Küçük Education Faculty Preschool Teaching Department. In the Children’s Rights Exhibition, which they created within the scope of the Child and Media course, the students of the Preschool Education Department discussed different issues regarding the violation of children’s rights.
Paintings with the theme “What Kind of World Do We Want to Live” made by primary school children were also included in the exhibition.
The news about children exposed to violence by their families, working children, children living on the street, abused children, neglected children with special needs and refugee children who had to leave their country in the last five years were included in the exhibition, and the statistical data of the last five years were displayed on the boards. In addition to these issues, the exhibition also touched upon the issue of child rights violations with the pandemic process that has been affecting the world for the last two years. The exhibition also featured paintings made by primary school children with the theme of “What Kind of World Do We Want to Live in”.
Erzen Yalçın, Ayşegül Aslan, Nazife Kıral and Yasin Efe, students of the preschool education department, talked about the meaning and importance of the day, and touched upon the historical basis of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the studies carried out in Turkey and the TRNC.
Ummanel: As EUL Pre-School Teaching Department, we consider advocacy for children’s rights as a duty.
EUL Pre-School Teaching Department faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Azize Ummanel said in a statement; “November 20th, World Child Rights Day is celebrated with various activities every year. As the European University of Lefke Preschool Education Department, we consider advocating for children’s rights a duty, and we are trying to raise awareness in this sense for our friends who will become teachers and for each individual who will work with children.”
