Science Education Teaching
Department of Science Education Teaching which has started education within the body of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education in the academic year of 2017-2018 offers 4 years of undergraduate education.
The fundamental aim of Department of Science Education Teaching is to train science literate teacher candidates who possess; high level of communication skills in which students can understand the science content and interact with science materials; the ability to establish a balance between oral, written and applied science activities; the ability to create an active learning environment for students; the ability to use appropriate measures to diagnose and evaluate students’ academic development; the ability to encourage students to ask questions such as How?, Why?, What if… ?; the ability to direct students to activities that can explain events (by investigating cause-and-effect relationships); the ability to plan experimental studies and to work safely in the laboratory; and the ability to relate the science topics on the ground to the nature events outside the classroom. The lectures offered in the program of Science Education Teaching consist of major area courses related to Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences and Space topics as well as educational lessons that describe the educational methods and techniques that are necessary for the effective and efficient implementation of science education. Applications belonging to major area courses are conducted in two fully equipped science laboratories. The students of the department serve their internships in the primary schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education within the scope of teaching practice and school experience courses. Our graduates are assigned as Science Education Teachers in school and preparatory school institutions of the Official and Private Education Institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Education. Our students who has graduated from the department can continue their graduate and doctorate studies under the framework of Institute of Education Sciences Program of Science Education Teaching.
