Academic Opening Ceremony of EUL honored by Minister of Education Özyiğit
EUL Rector Yükselen emphasized the fact that EUL is the fastest growing university in the last five years and the second most preferred university of this year
European University Lefke’s (EUL) 2018-2019 Academic Year Opening Ceremony took place at EUL Faculty of Law Conference hall on the 17th October Wednesday at 10.00. Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, Head and members of EUL Board of Trustees, Rector, Vice Rectors, Academicians, staff and students attended the ceremony.
Speeches were conducted by Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen and Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit in the ceremony which started after a moment of silence followed by the Turkish National Anthem. After the opening speech of Rector Yükselen, a bouquet and a plaque were presented to Özyiğit by Head of Board of Trutees Kamil Gilanlıoğulları, Member of Board of Trustees Feral Uyumsal Burhan and Rector Mehmet Ali Yükselen.
Yükselen: In terms of higher education in the T.R.N.C, EUL is the fastest growing university in the last five years on a proportional basis.
Yükselen said that, “On its 29th establishment anniversary, EUL has contributed to the higher education in the T.R.N.C as the fastest growing university in the last five years on a proportional basis and played a vital role in the social and economic development of Lefke region”. And added that EUL has started 2018-2019 academic year with 11,519 students from different countries, with 368 academic staff and 129 educational programs of foundation degree, post-graduate, graduate and PhD programs. Yükselen said that, “Our University is proud of being the second most preferred university among the TRNC universities in the last two years ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) placements and started the new academic year with 2,915 newly registered students”.
Yükselen stated that when the increase in the number of students within three years is evaluated, this progress and ranking as the 10th state university in Turkey is an important source of pride. Yükselen also pointed out that this progress is not only related to the increasing number of students, but it is also related with the new projects and implementation of these projects by the university management, the board of trustees, the rector and all the academicians in order to increase the quality of EUL. Yükselen also stated that, “Accreditations have been obtained from institutions such as MÜDEK, MİYAK, ASIIN and FİBAA with the awareness that quality assurance and accreditations are the biggest factors that qualify quantitative growth”.
Özyiğit: Students from different countries are honorary representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community
Minister of National Education and Culture, Cemal Özyiğit stated that in the North of Cyprus, there is a structure which is not completely compatible with international law and the world, stemming from the insolubility of the Cyprus Problem and pointed out that universities will play a vital role in overcoming this problem.
Özyiğit emphasized that students from different countries are honorary representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community and underlined the fact that the good condition of these students is another advantage for our country.
Pointing out that the graduates who return to their countries will make contributions to their own countries and on the other hand they will take on a very important task which is introducing Turkish Cypriot Community to the world, Özyiğit stated that the development of EUL in recent years is also very important for the region and its contributions to the development of the region are non-negligible.
Özyiğit: EUL has been experiencing a significant rise in the last five years
Özyiğit said that, “It is an honor and pride for me to be in such an educational institution and to address such an elite community” and pointed out that EUL has been experiencing a significant rise in the last five years and it has gained the title of second most preferred university. Özyiğit also stated that, “This is undoubtedly an important return of your efforts. These contributions and efforts made by you in this region has also attracted attention to the region” and added that socio-cultural and educational activities has also started to become prominent in the region.
Özyiğit: More and more students are showing interest in EUL
Özyiğit said that, “ The region which has been away for some reason, but which was always in the hearts of Cypriots has now started to gain the attention it deserved” and stated that the important thing is that the efforts did not turn into dust. Özyiğit finally said that, the ever increasing number of students is the proof of quality of EUL’s services.
