Day 1 of the Planning and Conservation Management Congress was held at EUL
Day 1 of the Planning and Conservation Management Congress which is organized by the European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Architecture Department of Architecture and which will last for two days was held at the Conference Hall of EUL Faculty of Law with the opening speeches of Dean of EUL Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Lerzan Aras, Head of National Turkey Committee of International Council on Monuments and Sites and the Academician of Yildiz Technical University Prof. Dr. İclal Dinçer.
Dean of EUL Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Lerzan Aras who made the opening speech of the congress said that “I would like to express my sincere thanks to these scientists who have attended the conference from Turkey and our homeland and who will share significant information here”.
Aras stated that “Development of Cultural Heritage, Conservation Awareness and Laws in the Historical Process in Northern Cyprus: Relevant Institutions, Establishments and Legislation”, “Problems and Solutions in Cultural Heritage Management in Northern Cyprus”, “The Role of International Organizations in Cultural Heritage Management”, and “Cultural Heritage Management in Northern Cyprus” will be handled by expert scientists in the conference.
Aras stated that it is aimed to produce solutions to the issues raised by planning and conservation management with the participation of universities and other public, institutions and organizations related to the profession and went on to say that the congress will last for 2 days and the reports of the 30 invited participants will be shared as a result of the studies carried out for 2 months within the framework of selected main topics.
In her speech on the management of conversation and planning, Head of National Turkey Committee of International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and Academician of Yildiz Technical University Prof. Dr. İclal Dinçer explained the conservation paradigm, the change, the scope of new concepts in conservation practice and what new approaches are and gave examples from Turkey and the world.
After the opening speeches, “Development of Cultural Heritage, Conservation Awareness and Laws in the Historical Process in Northern Cyprus: Relevant Institutions, Establishments and Legislation” titled topic was handled in the 1st session.
In the first session, following participants handled the topic; Assoc. Prod. Dr. Huriye Gürdallı (NEU Faculty Member), Assist. Prof. Dr. Bülent Kızılduman (EMU Faculty Member-President of DAKMAR (EMU Cultural Heritage Research Center) Archaeologist), Assist. Prof. Dr. Nurcan Gündüz (EMU Faculty Member, Lawyer), Assist. Prof. Dr Erçim Uluğ (EUL Faculty Member), Master Architect, Restoration Expert İlkay Feridun (Former Director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, Coordinator of the Advisory Board of the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee), Master Architect Emine Reis (Member of the Department of Antiquities and Museums Nicosia, Advisory Board Member of the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee), Architect Hülya Davulcu (Urban Planning Office, Güzelyurt).
After the first group, second group made their presentations.
In the 2nd session, “Problems and Solutions in Cultural Heritage Management in Northern Cyprus” was handled.
In the second session, following participants handled the topic; Prof. Dr. Şebnem Önal Hoşkara (EMU Faculty Member), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ege Uluca Tümer (EMU Faculty Member), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asu Tozan (EMU Faculty Member), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zihni Turkan (NEU Faculty Member), Assist. Prof. Dr. Makbule Oktay (EUL Faculty Member), Restoration Expert Dr. Nurbanu Tosun Soyel (Tourism Planning Office), Master Arcitect İpek Yaralıoğlu (Chamber of Architects Member), Architect/Interior Architect Özge Yücesoy (Planning and Constriction Office), Urban Planning Expert Ayça S. Çıralı (Representative of the Chamber of City Planners).
The Congress will be opened with the opening speech of the invited guest speaker, Restoration Specialist Burçe Ivedi Köksal on 09 November 2019 and will continue with the presentations of the 3rd and 4th groups.
