EUL Academician Bardak approached the effect of Media in the prevalence of Obesity
Media is a vital medium to engrain in the Protection of Social Health Awareness
European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Academician Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazal Bardak represented EUL with her verbal presentation titled “The Effect of Printed and Visual Media in the Prevalence of Obesity” in the International Congress on Social Sciences (INCSOS’2018) held at the Targoviste city of Romania.
Bardak: Obesity is a multifactorial disease caused by excessive accumulation of fat in the body
Bardak said that, “Health concept and being a healthy individual in recent years encompasses; health-centered care approach that protects, maintains and improves the health of individuals, families and communities”. Bardak also stated that, this approach is based on maintaining and improving the well-being of the individual and taking the right decisions about his / her health. Pointing out that, body mass index is calculated by dividing your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in metres squared), Bardak stated that, according to the evaluations of World Health Organization (WHO), those with a body mass index of 25-29.9 are considered to be over weighted and those over 30 are considered obese. She also said that, “Obesity which is generally referred to as “fatness”, is a multifactorial disease, characterized by chronicle changes, caused by excessive accumulation of fat in the body”.
Bardak: The use of the media to eliminate the need for preventive health services is an effective method
Bardak stated that, excessive and malnourishment and inadequacy in physical activity are regarded as the vital causes of obesity and added that the fact that media causes inactivity is accepted as a risk factor especially in the periods of childhood and adolescence. Bardak also said that, “Mass media and media are vital medium to engrain in the protection of social health awareness” and added that, the use of the media to eliminate the need for preventive health services is an effective method to maintain a healthy life, to improve the quality of life and to protect against diseases.
Bardak pointed out the aim of her collected works as; determining whether the role of media in obesity increase or in the prevention of increase in incidence is effective in the light of literature information.
