Patient Safety in Anesthesia is Vital
Anesthesia is a science that enables the surgical intervention to be performed in a healthy and comfortable manner.
European University of Lefke Vocational School of Health Services Department of Anesthesia Academician Assist. Prof. Dr. Serkan Demeç gave some information on the profession of anesthesia care providing and emphasized the importance of the profession.
Demeç said that Anesthesia is a Greek word meaning numbness and added that in modern medicine, anesthesia is a science that enables the surgical intervention to be performed in a healthy and comfortable manner.
First ether anesthesia was performed in 1846
Demeç said that, “On October 16, 1846, in the US, William Morton applied the first ether anesthesia” and added that this is the starting date of modern anesthesia and it is celebrated as the “World Anesthesia Day” all over the world.
Demeç said that, “An anesthesiologist who is the current practitioner of modern anesthesia whose foundations were laid 172 years ago is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine, who has five years of specialty education in this field and who can use high-level medical technology” and added that patient Safety is the most important thing of anesthesia agenda.
Anesthesia technicians are trained in EUL’s advanced application laboratories
Demeç stated that, “Although anesthesia is a must for safe surgery, it is not enough to eliminate the sensation to perform safely. During surgery, vital functions such as respiration and circulation are monitored, and high-tech monitors and anesthesia devices are used for safe anesthesia in modern operating theaters” and pointed out that advances in medical science and the development of surgical techniques are possible with advances in anesthesiology.
Demeç stated that anesthesia technicians are trained in EUL’s advanced application laboratories and congratulated the anesthesia experts and technicians who are the secret heroes of the operating room team on the occasion of October 16th World Anesthesia Day.
