EUL academician Meriç explained what should be done to avoid Alzheimer’s disease
The disease can be prevented with proper nutrition and exercises.
European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Lecturer Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Meriç gave information about Alzheimer’s disease.
Stating that Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to old age and the destruction of brain tissue, Meriç stated that Alzheimer’s, one of the dementia types, is the most common disease and continued his words about Alzheimer’s disease as follows; It is an insidious brain disease that usually progresses slowly and presents with memory problems. The exact cause is not yet known, but some possible causes are discussed and this risk is up to 4 times higher in those with a family history of Alzheimer’s Disease. The most important risk factor in all types of dementia is age. It is most common between the ages of 65-85 and its incidence increases with age. Women have a higher risk of Alzheimer’s Disease. Since cerebrovascular diseases are more common in men, vascular (vascular) dementia is more common. Exposure to head trauma and excessive head trauma is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s Disease ”.
The exact cause of the disease is not known yet
“Since the disease starts very insidiously, if you notice symptoms such as memory weakness, difficulties in doing daily life activities, difficulty in finding words and confusion in time and place, please consult a doctor immediately,” says Meriç, stating that the chance of benefiting from treatment will increase when the disease is diagnosed early. He stated that it consists of three main stages and that there may be long years between each stage and that some patients may progress differently without being subject to these stages.
“Since the exact cause of this disease is not yet known, there is no treatment to completely eliminate the disease. However, with early diagnosis, the symptoms of the disease can be reduced and its progression can be stopped or slowed down. Thus, the quality of life of the patients is tried to be kept at the highest level, ”Meriç said, adding what should be done to prevent Alzheimer’s disease; If you smoke, stop immediately, eat organic foods, consume seasonal vegetables and fruits, try not to consume pure sugar, remove foods with additives from your life, cook meals at low temperature, eat foods rich in fermented beneficial bacteria, eat low calorie diet, keep your weight under control, healthy sunbathing Do not neglect it, go to regular health checks, quality and adequate sleep should be included in your life, achieve stress management, attach importance to hygiene, make moving and regular exercise a lifestyle.
Regular exercise is important
“If you start to exercise regularly, the iris (exercise / sports hormone) can also protect your brain cells from injury and aging by releasing regularly. You can keep this miraculous hormone circulating in your veins by continuing to move with exercises suitable for you enough to make you sweat after a brisk walk. Meriç pointed out that low irisin level is one of the factors that cause the development of Alzheimer’s disease. While completing his words, Meriç stated that preventing Alzheimer’s disease is not as difficult as it was thought and that the disease can be prevented with proper nutrition and exercises.
