European University of Lefke Faculty of Architecture organized Acquaintance Meeting titled “New Faces/New Experiences” for the first time and in this framework “zine workshop” was held with the participation of the students. The workshop which was moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Elif Atamaz, Assist. Prof. Dr. Derin Işıkalan and Dr. Feriha Urfalı Doğu was held at the open area of Faculty of Architecture.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Elif Atamaz, Chairperson of the Graphic Design Department gave information about the workshop and said that “Zine design workshop is a newly developed and spreading workshop all over the world. In these works, which can be attended by people of all ages and levels of education, coloured papers, drawing pens, paints, tapes, staples, ribbons and all kinds of materials can be used. The goal is to enable everyone to express themselves by drawing, painting, collage, that without technology, with the old traditional methods, since creativity has no limits. The reason it’s called ‘zine” is that it comes from “magazine” because every product is full of colour, vibrant, fun and meaningful, like magazines”.

The works of the students were exhibited

Pointing out that the zine workshop which lasted for two days offered the opportunity to the students of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Graphic Design to work together, Atamaz said that each student transferred their imagination to papers on a topic of their choice and that all the works that were revealed were displayed and that other students and guests on the campus had the opportunity to watch the works.

Atamaz also said that the event, where different disciplines meet in the Zine workshop, welcomed newcomers and added that the Faculty of Architecture provides students from different classes and departments to work together. She further stressed that such workshops, where design students from different disciplines can develop creative ideas outdoors and feel like they belong to the university, create positive emotions for everyone.
